Then ¹  he said to them, “Do you still not understand?” ² 

“Have you understood all these things?” They replied, “Yes.”

He thought his own people ¹  would understand that God was delivering them ²  through him, ³  but they did not understand. ⁴ 

Then he called the crowd to him and said, ¹  “Listen and understand.

Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them about John the Baptist.

because they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened.

Yet ¹  his parents ²  did not understand ³  the remark ⁴  he made ⁵  to them.

Then he opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures, ¹ 

there is no one who understands, there is no one who seeks God.

For this reason do not be foolish, but be wise ¹  by understanding ²  what the Lord’s will is.

Then ¹  he called the crowd again and said to them, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand.

but as it is written: “Those who were not told about him will see, and those who have not heard will understand.” ¹ 

For this reason I speak to them in parables: Although they see they do not see, and although they hear they do not hear nor do they understand.

Then they understood that he had not told them to be on guard against the yeast in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

so that although they look they may look but not see, and although they hear they may hear but not understand, so they may not repent and be forgiven.” ¹ 

When he learned of this, ¹  Jesus said to them, “Why are you arguing ²  about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Have your hearts been hardened?

But ¹  the twelve ²  understood none of these things. This ³  saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp ⁴  what Jesus meant. ⁵ 

And concerning them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says: ‘You will listen carefully ¹  yet will never understand, you will look closely ²  yet will never comprehend.

When anyone hears the word about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one ¹  comes and snatches what was sown in his heart; ²  this is the seed sown along the path.

But as for the seed sown on good soil, this is the person who hears the word and understands. He bears fruit, yielding a hundred, sixty, or thirty times what was sown.” ¹
