So when Jacob heard that there was grain ¹  in Egypt, he sent our ancestors ²  there ³  the first time.

When they had eaten enough to be satisfied, ¹  they lightened the ship by throwing the wheat ²  into the sea.

But he said, ‘No, since in gathering the weeds you may uproot the wheat with them.

By itself the soil produces a crop, first the stalk, then the head, then the full grain in the head.

“Simon, ¹  Simon, pay attention! ²  Satan has demanded to have you all, ³  to sift you like wheat, ⁴ 

But while everyone was sleeping, an enemy came and sowed weeds ¹  among the wheat and went away.

Then ¹  he said, ‘I ²  will do this: I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.

And what you sow is not the body that is to be, but a bare seed ¹  – perhaps of wheat or something else.

I tell you the solemn truth, ¹  unless a kernel of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains by itself alone. ²  But if it dies, it produces ³  much grain. ⁴ 

Then ¹  I heard something like a voice from among the four living creatures saying, “A quart ²  of wheat will cost a day’s pay ³  and three quarts of barley will cost a day’s pay. But ⁴  do not damage the olive oil and the wine!”

cinnamon, spice, ¹  incense, perfumed ointment, ²  frankincense, ³  wine, olive oil and costly flour, ⁴  wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and four-wheeled carriages, ⁵  slaves and human lives. ⁶ 

Let both grow together until the harvest. At ¹  harvest time I will tell the reapers, “First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned, but then ²  gather ³  the wheat into my barn.”’”
