It was the day of preparation ¹  and the Sabbath was beginning. ² 

Then ¹  he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for people, ²  not people for the Sabbath.

Or have you not read in the law that the priests in the temple desecrate the Sabbath and yet are not guilty?

Now after the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

But if a male child ¹  is circumcised ²  on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses is not broken, ³  why are you angry with me because I made a man completely well ⁴  on the Sabbath?

For the Son of Man is lord ¹  of the Sabbath.”

How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”

Pray ¹  that your flight may not be in winter or on a Sabbath.

Then ¹  they went to Capernaum. ²  When the Sabbath came, ³  Jesus ⁴  went into the synagogue ⁵  and began to teach.

For this reason the Son of Man is lord ¹  even of the Sabbath.”

They watched ¹  Jesus ²  closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath, ³  so that they could accuse him.

Then ¹  he said to them, “The Son of Man is lord ²  of the Sabbath.”

Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues ¹  on the Sabbath,

I fast twice ¹  a week; I give a tenth ²  of everything I get.’

Now because Jesus was doing these things ¹  on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders ²  began persecuting ³  him.

He addressed ¹  both Jews and Greeks in the synagogue ²  every Sabbath, attempting to persuade ³  them.

So ¹  the Pharisees ²  said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is against the law on the Sabbath?”

And very early on the first day of the week, at sunrise, they went to the tomb.
