These are the things that defile a person; it is not eating with unwashed hands that defiles a person.” ¹ 

What defiles a person is not what goes into the mouth; it is what ¹  comes out of the mouth that defiles a person.”

He said, “What comes out of a person defiles him.

All these evils come from within and defile a person.”

There is nothing outside of a person that can defile him by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles him.” ¹ 

But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these things defile a person.

The voice ¹  spoke to him again, a second time, “What God has made clean, you must not consider ²  ritually unclean!” ³ 

But the voice replied a second time from heaven, ‘What God has made clean, you must not consider ¹  ritually unclean!’

He said to them, “Are you so foolish? Don’t you understand that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him?

For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a young cow sprinkled on those who are defiled consecrated them and provided ritual purity, ¹ 

shouting, “Men of Israel, ¹  help! This is the man who teaches everyone everywhere against our people, our law, ²  and this sanctuary! ³  Furthermore ⁴  he has brought Greeks into the inner courts of the temple ⁵  and made this holy place ritually unclean!” ⁶
