Furthermore, those who have fallen asleep ¹  in Christ have also perished.

And tombs were opened, and the bodies of many saints who had died ¹  were raised.

Then the disciples replied, ¹  “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.”

That is why many of you are weak and sick, and quite a few are dead. ¹ 

But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

Listen, ¹  I will tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, ²  but we will all be changed –

telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came at night and stole his body ¹  while we were asleep.’

When ¹  he got up from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping, exhausted ²  from grief.

Then he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters ¹  at one time, most of whom are still alive, ²  though some have fallen asleep. ³ 

After he said this, he added, ¹  “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep. ²  But I am going there to awaken him.”

Then he fell ¹  to his knees and cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them!” ²  When ³  he had said this, he died. ⁴ 

For David, after he had served ¹  God’s purpose in his own generation, died, ²  was buried with his ancestors, ³  and experienced ⁴  decay,

Now we do not want you to be uninformed, ¹  brothers and sisters, ²  about those who are asleep, ³  so that you will not grieve like the rest who have no hope.

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, so also we believe that ¹  God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep as Christians. ² 

and saying, ¹  “Where is his promised return? ²  For ever since ³  our ancestors ⁴  died, ⁵  all things have continued as they were ⁶  from the beginning of creation.”

On that very night before Herod was going to bring him out for trial, ¹  Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, while ²  guards in front of the door were keeping watch ³  over the prison.

A wife is bound as long as her husband is living. But if her husband dies, ¹  she is free to marry anyone she wishes (only someone in the Lord).

For we tell you this by the word of the Lord, ¹  that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will surely not go ahead of those who have fallen asleep.
