But on Herod’s birthday, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod,

But when John rebuked Herod ¹  the tetrarch ²  because of Herodias, his brother’s wife, ³  and because of all the evil deeds ⁴  that he had done,

When ¹  he learned that he was from Herod’s jurisdiction, ²  he sent him over to Herod, ³  who also happened to be in Jerusalem ⁴  at that time.

When King Herod ¹  heard this he was alarmed, and all Jerusalem with him.

At that time Herod the tetrarch ¹  heard reports about Jesus,

But when Herod heard this, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has been raised!”

Then Herod ¹  privately summoned the wise men and determined from them when the star had appeared.

After being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, ¹  they went back by another route to their own country.

After Herod ¹  had died, an ²  angel of the Lord ³  appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt

For John had repeatedly told ¹  Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.” ² 

And Jesus ¹  ordered them, ²  “Watch out! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees ³  and the yeast of Herod!”

Neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Look, he has done nothing ¹  deserving death. ² 

About that time King Herod ¹  laid hands on ²  some from the church to harm them. ³ 

On a day determined in advance, Herod ¹  put on his royal robes, ²  sat down on the judgment seat, ³  and made a speech ⁴  to them.

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem ¹  in Judea, in the time ²  of King Herod, ³  wise men ⁴  from the East came to Jerusalem ⁵ 

For Herod had arrested John, bound him, ¹  and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,

But ¹  a suitable day ²  came, when Herod gave a banquet on his birthday for his court officials, military commanders, and leaders of Galilee.

and Joanna the wife of Cuza ¹  (Herod’s ²  household manager), ³  Susanna, and many others who provided for them ⁴  out of their own resources.

Now Herod ¹  the tetrarch ²  heard about everything that was happening, and he was thoroughly perplexed, ³  because some people were saying that John ⁴  had been raised from the dead,

Herod said, “I had John ¹  beheaded, but who is this about whom I hear such things?” So Herod wanted to learn about Jesus. ²
