Bring ¹  the fattened calf ²  and kill it! Let us eat ³  and celebrate,

And again it says: “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people.” ¹ 

“There was a rich man who dressed in purple ¹  and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously ²  every day.

For if I make you sad, who would be left to make me glad ¹  but the one I caused to be sad?

And I will say to myself, ¹  “You have plenty of goods stored up for many years; relax, eat, drink, celebrate!”’

because this son of mine was dead, and is alive again – he was lost and is found!’ ¹  So ²  they began to celebrate.

It was appropriate ¹  to celebrate and be glad, for your brother ²  was dead, and is alive; he was lost and is found.’” ³ 

Therefore my heart was glad and my tongue rejoiced; my body ¹  also will live in hope,

At ¹  that time ²  they made an idol in the form of a calf, ³  brought ⁴  a sacrifice to the idol, and began rejoicing ⁵  in the works of their hands. ⁶ 

(Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, for God has pronounced judgment ¹  against her on your behalf!) ² 

but he answered ¹  his father, ‘Look! These many years I have worked like a slave ²  for you, and I never disobeyed your commands. Yet ³  you never gave me even a goat ⁴  so that I could celebrate with my friends!

For it is written: “Rejoice, O barren woman who does not bear children; ¹  break forth and shout, you who have no birth pains, because the children of the desolate woman are more numerous than those of the woman who has a husband.” ² 

And those who live on the earth will rejoice over them and celebrate, even sending gifts to each other, because these two prophets had tormented those who live on the earth.

Therefore you heavens rejoice, and all who reside in them! But ¹  woe to the earth and the sea because the devil has come down to you! He ²  is filled with terrible anger, for he knows that he only has a little time!”
