Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”

Then ¹  he bent over again and wrote on the ground.

He wrote ¹  a letter that went like this: ² 

just as it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one,

for it is written, “You shall be holy, because I am holy.” ¹ 

These things I have written to you about those who are trying to deceive you. ¹ 

I have many things to write to you, but I do not wish to write to you with ¹  pen and ink. ² 

I am writing to you, fathers, that ¹  you have known him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young people, that ²  you have conquered the evil one. ³ 

Pilate also had a notice ¹  written and fastened to the cross, ²  which read: ³  “Jesus the Nazarene, the king of the Jews.”

They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of dismissal and to divorce her.” ¹ 

So ¹  it seemed good to me as well, ²  because I have followed ³  all things carefully from the beginning, to write an orderly account ⁴  for you, most excellent Theophilus,

for it is written, ‘He will command his angels concerning you, to protect you,’ ¹ 

He said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you understand it?” ¹ 

because these are days of vengeance, ¹  to fulfill ²  all that is written.

If ¹  you believed Moses, you would believe me, because he wrote about me.

Jesus found a young donkey ¹  and sat on it, just as it is written,

The ¹  words of the prophets agree ²  with this, as it is written,

For just as it is written, “the name of God is being blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.” ¹ 

But the statement it was credited to him ¹  was not written only for Abraham’s ²  sake,

just as it is written: “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.” ¹
