How then would the scriptures that say it must happen this way be fulfilled?”

Then he opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures, ¹ 

For these things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled, “Not a bone of his will be broken.” ¹ 

And again another scripture says, “They will look on the one whom they have pierced.” ¹ 

(For they did not yet understand ¹  the scripture that Jesus ²  must rise from the dead.) ³ 

This gospel ¹  he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures,

For the scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” ¹ 

and that he was buried, and that he was raised ¹  on the third day according to the scriptures,

Above all, you do well if you recognize ¹  this: ²  No prophecy of scripture ever comes about by the prophet’s own imagination, ³ 

Have you not read this scripture: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. ¹ 

Then ¹  he began to tell them, “Today ²  this scripture has been fulfilled even as you heard it being read.” ³ 

Then ¹  beginning with Moses and all the prophets, ²  he interpreted to them the things written about ³  himself in all the scriptures.

After this Jesus, realizing that by this time ¹  everything was completed, ²  said (in order to fulfill the scripture), ³  “I am thirsty!” ⁴ 

for he refuted the Jews vigorously ¹  in public debate, ²  demonstrating from the scriptures that the Christ ³  was Jesus. ⁴ 

For what does the scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited ¹  to him as righteousness.” ² 

For the scripture says, “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,” ¹  and, “The worker deserves his pay.” ² 

Every scripture ¹  is inspired by God ²  and useful for teaching, for reproof, ³  for correction, and for training in righteousness,

But if you fulfill the royal law as expressed in this scripture, ¹  “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” ²  you are doing well.

Or do you think the scripture means nothing when it says, ¹  “The spirit that God ²  caused ³  to live within us has an envious yearning”? ⁴ 

Jesus ¹  answered them, “You are deceived, ²  because you don’t know the scriptures or the power of God.
