So then, one who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret.

to another performance of miracles, to another prophecy, and to another discernment of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.

for they heard them speaking in tongues and praising ¹  God. Then Peter said,

The one who speaks in a tongue builds himself up, ¹  but the one who prophesies builds up the church.

I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you,

So then, brothers and sisters, ¹  be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid anyone from speaking in tongues. ² 

and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

But no human being can subdue the tongue; it is a restless ¹  evil, full of deadly poison.

Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue but in deed and truth. ¹ 

I wish you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets so that the church may be strengthened.

And the tongue is a fire! The tongue represents ¹  the world of wrongdoing among the parts of our bodies. It ²  pollutes the entire body and sets fire to the course of human existence – and is set on fire by hell. ³ 

And immediately the man’s ¹  ears were opened, his tongue loosened, and he spoke plainly.

These signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages; ¹ 

Immediately ¹  Zechariah’s ²  mouth was opened and his tongue ³  released, ⁴  and he spoke, blessing God.

And tongues spreading out like a fire ¹  appeared to them and came to rest on each one of them.

both Jews and proselytes, ¹  Cretans and Arabs – we hear them speaking in our own languages about the great deeds God has done!” ² 

“Their throats are open graves, ¹  they deceive with their tongues, the poison of asps is under their lips.” ² 

Not all have gifts of healing, do they? Not all speak in tongues, do they? Not all interpret, do they? ¹ 

Love never ends. But if there are prophecies, they will be set aside; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be set aside.

For the one speaking in a tongue does not speak to people but to God, for no one understands; he is speaking mysteries by the Spirit. ¹
