just as I was in my most productive time, ¹  when God’s intimate friendship ²  was experienced in my tent,

Adulterers, do you not know that friendship with the world means hostility toward God? ¹  So whoever decides to be the world’s friend makes himself God’s enemy.

Do not make friends with an angry person, ¹  and do not associate with a wrathful person,

The Lord’s loyal followers receive his guidance, ¹  and he reveals his covenantal demands to them. ²

for one who goes astray ¹  is an abomination ²  to the Lord, but he reveals ³  his intimate counsel ⁴  to the upright.

A person who has friends ¹  may be harmed by them, ²  but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

The one who loves a pure heart ¹  and whose speech is gracious ²  – the king will be his friend. ³ 

Ointment and incense make the heart rejoice, ¹  likewise the sweetness of one’s friend from sincere counsel. ²
