Like a coating of glaze ¹  over earthenware are fervent ²  lips with an evil heart. ³ 

and he is to slaughter one bird into a clay vessel over fresh water. ¹ 

The priest will then command that one bird be slaughtered ¹  into a clay vessel over fresh water. ² 

The Lord told Jeremiah, ¹  “Go and buy a clay jar from a potter. ²  Take with you ³  some of the leaders of the people and some of the leaders ⁴  of the priests.

‘The Lord God of Israel who rules over all ¹  says, “Take these documents, both the sealed copy of the deed of purchase and the unsealed copy. Put them in a clay jar so that they may be preserved for a long time to come.”’ ² 

As for any clay vessel they fall into, ¹  everything in it ²  will become unclean and you must break it.

A clay vessel ¹  which the man with the discharge touches must be broken, and any wooden utensil must be rinsed in water.

Any clay vessel it is boiled in must be broken, and if it was boiled in a bronze vessel, then that vessel ¹  must be rubbed out and rinsed in water.

The priest will then take holy water ¹  in a pottery jar, and take some ²  of the dust ³  that is on the floor of the tabernacle, and put it into the water.

Now in a wealthy home ¹  there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also ones made of wood and of clay, and some are for honorable use, but others for ignoble use. ² 

You will break them ¹  with an iron scepter; ²  you will smash them like a potter’s jar!’” ³ 

But the time is coming when I will send men against Moab who will empty it out. They will empty the towns of their people, then will lay those towns in ruins. ¹  I, the Lord, affirm it! ² 

One who argues with his creator is in grave danger, ¹  one who is like a mere ²  shard among the other shards on the ground! The clay should not say to the potter, ³  “What in the world ⁴  are you doing? Your work lacks skill!” ⁵
