He prepares to use deadly weapons against him; ¹  he gets ready to shoot flaming arrows. ² 

But no human being can subdue the tongue; it is a restless ¹  evil, full of deadly poison.

he will certainly rescue you from the snare of the hunter ¹  and from the destructive plague.

Protect me from ¹  the wicked men who attack ²  me, my enemies who crowd around me for the kill. ³ 

Their wine is snakes’ poison, the deadly venom of cobras.

Like a madman ¹  who shoots firebrands and deadly arrows, ² 

they will pick up snakes with their hands, and whatever poison they drink will not harm them; ¹  they will place their hands on the sick and they will be well.”

Their tongues are like deadly arrows. ¹  They are always telling lies. ²  Friendly words for their neighbors come from their mouths. But their minds are thinking up ways to trap them. ³ 

I will shoot against them deadly, ¹  destructive ²  arrows of famine, ³  which I will shoot to destroy you. ⁴  I will prolong a famine on you and will remove the bread supply. ⁵ 

They say, ¹  ‘An awful disease ²  overwhelms him, ³  and now that he is bed-ridden he will never recover.’ ⁴ 

the one who delivers ¹  kings, and rescued David his servant from a deadly ²  sword.

All of its soldiers are strong and mighty. ¹  Their arrows will send you to your grave. ² 

“Because ¹  you have acted like a wanton prostitute ²  – a seductive mistress who practices sorcery, ³  who ⁴  enslaves ⁵  nations by her harlotry, ⁶  and entices peoples by her sorcery ⁷  –

He ¹  delivered us from so great a risk of death, and he will deliver us. We have set our hope on him ²  that ³  he will deliver us yet again,

Making a fortune ¹  by a lying tongue is like ²  a vapor driven back and forth; ³  they seek death. ⁴ 

They will die of deadly diseases. No one will mourn for them. They will not be buried. Their dead bodies will lie like manure spread on the ground. They will be killed in war or die of starvation. Their corpses will be food for the birds and wild animals.

One of the beast’s ¹  heads appeared to have been killed, ²  but the lethal wound had been healed. ³  And the whole world followed ⁴  the beast in amazement;

He ¹  exercised all the ruling authority ²  of the first beast on his behalf, ³  and made the earth and those who inhabit it worship the first beast, the one whose lethal wound had been healed.

So now, forgive my sin this time only, and pray to the Lord your God that he would only ¹  take this death ²  away from me.”

My enemies’ taunts cut into me to the bone, ¹  as they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” ²
