For if the inheritance is based on the law, it is no longer based on the promise, but God graciously gave ¹  it to Abraham through the promise.

“To these the land must be divided as an inheritance according to the number of the names.

All the law and the prophets depend ¹  on these two commandments.”

For Moses writes about the righteousness that is by the law: “The one who does these things will live by them.” ¹ 

But the righteousness that is by faith says: “Do not say in your heart, ¹  ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” ²  (that is, to bring Christ down)

so that your faith would not be based on human wisdom but on the power of God.

and be found in him, not because I have my own righteousness derived from the law, but because I have the righteousness that comes by way of Christ’s faithfulness ¹  – a righteousness from God that is in fact ²  based on Christ’s ³  faithfulness. ⁴ 

Where, then, is boasting? ¹  It is excluded! By what principle? ²  Of works? No, but by the principle of faith!

Why not? Because they pursued ¹  it not by faith but (as if it were possible) by works. ²  They stumbled over the stumbling stone, ³ 

But the law is not based on faith, ¹  but the one who does the works of the law ²  will live by them. ³ 

But ¹  now Jesus ²  has obtained a superior ministry, since ³  the covenant that he mediates is also better and is enacted ⁴  on better promises. ⁵ 

Your sin inspires ¹  your mouth; you choose the language ²  of the crafty. ³ 

On what ¹  were its bases ²  set, or who laid its cornerstone –

For he set its foundation upon the seas, and established ¹  it upon the ocean currents. ² 

Loyal love and truth ¹  preserve a king, and his throne is upheld by loyal love. ² 

Do not judge according to external appearance, ¹  but judge with proper ²  judgment.”

but Israel even though pursuing ¹  a law of righteousness ²  did not attain it. ³ 

For the kingdom of God is demonstrated not in idle talk but with power.

For the promise ¹  to Abraham or to his descendants that he would inherit the world was not fulfilled through the law, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.

So they placed him in custody until they were able ¹  to make a clear legal decision for themselves based on words from the mouth of the Lord. ²
