or else he might find you asleep when he returns suddenly.

Furthermore, those who have fallen asleep ¹  in Christ have also perished.

For now ¹  I would be lying down and ²  would be quiet, ³  I would be asleep and then at peace ⁴ 

And tombs were opened, and the bodies of many saints who had died ¹  were raised.

But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

He died ¹  for us so that whether we are alert or asleep ²  we will come to life together with him.

Then ¹  he came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Couldn’t you stay awake for one hour?

and as they sailed he fell asleep. Now a violent windstorm ¹  came down on the lake, ²  and the boat ³  started filling up with water, and they were in danger.

When ¹  the bridegroom was delayed a long time, they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

Then the disciples replied, ¹  “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.”

And a great storm developed on the sea so that the waves began to swamp the boat. But he was asleep.

After he said this, he added, ¹  “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep. ²  But I am going there to awaken him.”

Then he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters ¹  at one time, most of whom are still alive, ²  though some have fallen asleep. ³ 

telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came at night and stole his body ¹  while we were asleep.’

Then he fell asleep again and had a second dream: There were seven heads of grain growing ¹  on one stalk, healthy ²  and good.

Then he fell ¹  to his knees and cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them!” ²  When ³  he had said this, he died. ⁴ 

he said, “Go away, for the girl is not dead but asleep.” And they began making fun of him. ¹ 

He came again and found them sleeping; they could not keep their eyes open. ¹ 

He stretched out ¹  and fell asleep under the shrub. All of a sudden an angelic messenger ²  touched him and said, “Get up and eat.”

For David, after he had served ¹  God’s purpose in his own generation, died, ²  was buried with his ancestors, ³  and experienced ⁴  decay,
