“When ¹  an unclean spirit ²  goes out of a person, ³  it passes through waterless places ⁴  looking for rest but ⁵  does not find it.

This fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet: ¹  “I will open my mouth in parables, I will announce what has been hidden from the foundation of the world.” ² 

Now when Jesus heard this he went away from there privately in a boat to an isolated place. But when the crowd heard about it, ¹  they followed him on foot from the towns. ² 

Meanwhile the boat, already far from land, ¹  was taking a beating from the waves because the wind was against it.

When ¹  the disciples saw him walking on the water ²  they were terrified and said, “It’s a ghost!” and cried out with fear.

So he said, “Come.” Peter got out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus.

How could you not understand that I was not speaking to you about bread? But beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!”

Then ¹  Jesus rebuked ²  the demon and it came out of him, and the boy was healed from that moment.

Woe to the world because of stumbling blocks! It ¹  is necessary that stumbling blocks come, but woe to the person through whom they come.

So also my heavenly Father will do to you, if each of you does not forgive your ¹  brother ²  from your heart.”

A ¹  very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road. Others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.

Now ¹  as Jesus was going out of the temple courts and walking away, his disciples came to show him the temple buildings. ² 

For just like the lightning ¹  comes from the east and flashes to the west, so the coming of the Son of Man will be.

“Learn ¹  this parable from the fig tree: Whenever its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near.

All ¹  the nations will be assembled before him, and he will separate people one from another like a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.

But Peter was following him from a distance, all the way to the high priest’s courtyard. After ¹  going in, he sat with the guards ²  to see the outcome.

The ¹  governor asked them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas!”

“He saved others, but he cannot save himself! He is the king of Israel! If he comes down ¹  now from the cross, we will believe in him!

Now ¹  in those days Jesus came from Nazareth ²  in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan River. ³ 

The experts in the law ¹  who came down from Jerusalem ²  said, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” ³  and, “By the ruler ⁴  of demons he casts out demons.”
