Immediately ¹  something like scales ²  fell from his eyes, and he could see again. He ³  got up and was baptized,

When they had accomplished ¹  everything that was written ²  about him, they took him down ³  from the cross ⁴  and placed him ⁵  in a tomb.

that this promise ¹  God has fulfilled to us, their children, by raising ²  Jesus, as also it is written in the second psalm, ‘You are my Son; ³  today I have fathered you.’ ⁴ 

When both the Gentiles and the Jews (together with their rulers) made ¹  an attempt to mistreat ²  them and stone them, ³ 

You know that I did not hold back from proclaiming ¹  to you anything that would be helpful, ²  and from teaching you publicly ³  and from house to house,

When we heard this, both we and the local people ¹  begged him not to go up to Jerusalem.

But when the Jews objected, ¹  I was forced to appeal to Caesar ²  – not that I had some charge to bring ³  against my own people. ⁴ 

As it is written, “For your sake we encounter death all day long; we were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” ¹ 

Why not? Because they pursued ¹  it not by faith but (as if it were possible) by works. ²  They stumbled over the stumbling stone, ³ 

And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How timely ¹  is the arrival ²  of those who proclaim the good news.” ³ 

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how fathomless his ways!

Let us live decently as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in discord and jealousy.

If someone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss. ¹  He himself will be saved, but only as through fire.

To the unmarried and widows I say that it is best for them to remain as I am.

those who use the world as though they were not using it to the full. For the present shape of this world is passing away.

To those free from the law I became like one free from the law (though I am not free from God’s law but under the law of Christ) to gain those free from the law.

You know that when you were pagans you were often led astray by speechless idols, however you were led.

for God is not characterized by disorder but by peace. As in all the churches of the saints, ¹ 

Now if Timothy comes, see that he has nothing to fear among you, for he is doing the Lord’s work, as I am too.

Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? We don’t need letters of recommendation to you or from you as some other people do, do we? ¹
