And we are sending ¹  along with him the brother who is praised by all the churches for his work in spreading the gospel. ² 

For we are concerned about what is right not only before the Lord but also before men. ¹ 

in whom we have boldness and confident access ¹  to God ²  because of ³  Christ’s ⁴  faithfulness. ⁵ 

For we hear that some among you are living an undisciplined life, ¹  not doing their own work but meddling in the work of others. ² 

For he did not put the world to come, ¹  about which we are speaking, ²  under the control of angels.

You ought to say instead, ¹  “If the Lord is willing, then we will live and do this or that.”

And by this ¹  we will know that we are of the truth and will convince ²  our conscience ³  in his presence, ⁴ 

They said to one other, ¹  “Surely we’re being punished ²  because of our brother, because we saw how distressed he was ³  when he cried to us for mercy, but we refused to listen. That is why this distress ⁴  has come on us!”

The Levite ¹  said to him, “We are traveling from Bethlehem ²  in Judah to the remote region of the Ephraimite hill country. That’s where I’m from. I had business in Bethlehem in Judah, but now I’m heading home. ³  But no one has invited me into their home.

Then they said to one another, “It’s not right what we’re doing! This is a day to celebrate, but we haven’t told anyone. ¹  If we wait until dawn, ²  we’ll be punished. ³  So come on, let’s go and inform the royal palace.”

because we are about to destroy ¹  it. The outcry against this place ²  is so great before the Lord that he ³  has sent us to destroy it.”

They replied, “You have saved our lives! You are showing us favor, ¹  and we will be Pharaoh’s slaves.” ² 

The Egyptians were urging ¹  the people on, in order to send them out of the land quickly, ²  for they were saying, “We are all dead!”

All the Israelites ¹  who were around them fled at their cry, ²  for they said, “What if ³  the earth swallows us too?”

If you should report what we’ve been up to, ¹  we are not bound by this oath you made us swear.”

Be strong and act like men, you Philistines, or else you will wind up serving the Hebrews the way they have served you! Act like men and fight!”

Then Saul said, “All you leaders of the army come here. Find out ¹  how this sin occurred today.

The king’s servants replied to the king, “We will do whatever our lord the king decides.” ¹ 

Some of the prophets ¹  said to Elisha, “Look, the place where we meet with you ²  is too cramped ³  for us.

Then those in Judah said, “The strength of the laborers ¹  has failed! The debris is so great that we are unable to rebuild the wall.”
