And let us not be immoral, as some of them were, and twenty-three thousand died in a single day. ¹ 

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is present, ¹  there is freedom.

For you know quite well that the day of the Lord ¹  will come in the same way as a thief in the night. ² 

So David said to all his servants who were with him in Jerusalem, ¹  “Come on! ²  Let’s escape! ³  Otherwise no one will be delivered from Absalom! Go immediately, or else he will quickly overtake us and bring ⁴  disaster on us and kill the city’s residents with the sword.” ⁵ 

After they had passed the first and second guards, ¹  they came to the iron ²  gate leading into the city. It ³  opened for them by itself, ⁴  and they went outside and walked down one narrow street, ⁵  when at once the angel left him.

Then the eyes of both of them opened, and they knew they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

Then he fell asleep again and had a second dream: There were seven heads of grain growing ¹  on one stalk, healthy ²  and good.

He said to his father, “My head! My head!” His father ¹  told a servant, “Carry him to his mother.”

In a moment they die, in the middle of the night, ¹  people ²  are shaken ³  and they pass away. The mighty are removed effortlessly. ⁴ 

Look, they hurl insults at me and openly threaten to kill me, ¹  for they say, ²  “Who hears?”

Do not strike them dead suddenly, because then my people might forget the lesson. ¹  Use your power to make them homeless vagabonds and then bring them down, O Lord who shields us! ² 

He lifts a signal flag for a distant nation, ¹  he whistles for it to come from the far regions of the earth. Look, they ²  come quickly and swiftly.

I cry out ¹  until morning; like a lion he shatters all my bones; you turn day into night and end my life. ² 

ו (Vav) The punishment ¹  of my people ²  exceeded that of ³  of Sodom, which was overthrown in a moment with no one to help her. ⁴ 

Then I perceived that the glory of the God of Israel was there, as in the vision I had seen earlier in the valley.

When I had returned, I noticed ¹  a vast number of trees on the banks of the river, on both sides.

But the court will convene, ¹  and his ruling authority will be removed – destroyed and abolished forever!

After ¹  entering into an alliance with him, he will behave treacherously; he will ascend to power with only a small force. ² 

Therefore they will now be the first to go into exile, ¹  and the religious banquets ²  where they sprawl on couches ³  will end.

But ¹  the Lord hurled ²  a powerful ³  wind on the sea. Such a violent ⁴  tempest arose on the sea that ⁵  the ship threatened to break up! ⁶
