The canals ¹  will stink; ²  the streams of Egypt will trickle and then dry up; the bulrushes and reeds will decay,

The officials of Zoan are fools, the officials of Memphis ¹  are misled; the rulers ²  of her tribes lead Egypt astray.

Those who put their hope in Cush and took pride in Egypt will be afraid and embarrassed. ¹ 

Egypt is totally incapable of helping. ¹  For this reason I call her ‘Proud one ²  who is silenced.’” ³

I made all of these other people drink it: Pharaoh, king of Egypt; ¹  his attendants, his officials, his people,

There was a famine in the land, so Abram went down to Egypt ¹  to stay for a while ²  because the famine was severe. ³

His descendants ¹  settled from Havilah to Shur, which runs next ²  to Egypt all the way ³  to Asshur. ⁴  They settled ⁵  away from all their relatives. ⁶ 

The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; ¹  settle down in the land that I will point out to you. ²
