because of what the enemy says, ¹  and because of how the wicked ²  pressure me, ³  for they hurl trouble ⁴  down upon me ⁵  and angrily attack me.

They speak sinful words. ¹  So let them be trapped by their own pride and by the curses and lies they speak!

O God, arrogant men attack me; ¹  a gang ²  of ruthless men, who do not respect you, seek my life. ³ 

I will hand Egypt over to a harsh master; a powerful king will rule over them,” says the sovereign master, ¹  the Lord who commands armies.

Then everyone will know that I am the Lord, who drew my sword from its sheath – it will not be sheathed again!’

“Yet even now,” the Lord says, “return to me with all your heart – with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Tear your hearts, ¹  not just your garments!”

Can a person rob ¹  God? You indeed are robbing me, but you say, ‘How are we robbing you?’ In tithes and contributions! ² 

“Again, you have heard that it was said to an older generation, ¹  ‘Do not break an oath, but fulfill your vows to the Lord.’ ² 

If ¹  you had known what this means: ‘I want mercy and not sacrifice,’ ²  you would not have condemned the innocent.

For this reason I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a people ¹  who will produce its fruit.

But he denied it: ¹  “I don’t even understand what you’re talking about!” ²  Then ³  he went out to the gateway, and a rooster crowed. ⁴ 

‘I tell you that everyone who has will be given more, ¹  but from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. ² 

So the Jewish leaders ¹  began to say, ²  “Perhaps he is going to kill himself, because he says, ‘Where I am going you cannot come.’”

Jesus said to them, ¹  “I have shown you many good deeds ²  from the Father. For which one of them are you going to stone me?”

And I will do whatever you ask in my name, ¹  so that the Father may be glorified ²  in the Son.

Everything that the Father has is mine; that is why I said the Spirit ¹  will receive from me what is mine ²  and will tell it to you. ³ 

who said by the Holy Spirit through ¹  your servant David our forefather, ²  ‘Why do the nations ³  rage, ⁴  and the peoples plot foolish ⁵  things?

They are filled ¹  with every kind of unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, malice. They are rife with ²  envy, murder, strife, deceit, hostility. They are gossips,

Do we then nullify ¹  the law through faith? Absolutely not! Instead ²  we uphold the law.

Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will trouble, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? ¹
