Then ¹  the experts in the law ²  and the Pharisees began to think ³  to themselves, ⁴  “Who is this man ⁵  who is uttering blasphemies? ⁶  Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

Then ¹  Jesus ²  said to his ³  disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry ⁴  about your ⁵  life, what you will eat, or about your ⁶  body, what you will wear.

Now at that very moment his disciples came back. ¹  They were shocked ²  because he was speaking ³  with a woman. However, no one said, “What do you want?” ⁴  or “Why are you speaking with her?”

But there are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus had already known from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.) ¹ 

When Peter saw this, he declared to the people, “Men of Israel, ¹  why are you amazed at this? Why ²  do you stare at us as if we had made this man ³  walk by our own power or piety?

– since the eyes of your ¹  heart have been enlightened ²  – so that you may know what is the hope of his calling, ³  what is the wealth of his glorious ⁴  inheritance in the saints,

they worshiped the dragon because he had given ruling authority ¹  to the beast, and they worshiped the beast too, saying: “Who is like the beast?” and “Who is able to make war against him?” ² 

But when you do your giving, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,

And which of you by worrying can add even one hour to his life? ¹ 

Is ¹  there anyone among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?

Which is easier, ¹  to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven’ or to say, ‘Stand up and walk’?

He ¹  said to them, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry –

If ¹  you had known what this means: ‘I want mercy and not sacrifice,’ ²  you would not have condemned the innocent.

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

When Jesus learned of this, ¹  he said, “You who have such little faith! ²  Why are you arguing ³  among yourselves about having no bread?

Now ¹  someone came up to him and said, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to gain eternal life?”

Jesus stopped, called them, and said, “What do you want me to do for you?”

As he entered Jerusalem the whole city was thrown into an uproar, ¹  saying, “Who is this?”

Tell us then, what do you think? Is it right ¹  to pay taxes ²  to Caesar ³  or not?”

But Jesus realized their evil intentions and said, “Hypocrites! Why are you testing me?
