“Honor your father and mother,” ¹  which is the first commandment accompanied by a promise, namely,

Fathers, ¹  do not provoke your children to anger, ²  but raise them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

But you know his qualifications, that like a son working with his father, he served with me in advancing the gospel.

We always ¹  give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you,

giving thanks to the Father who has qualified you to share ¹  in the saints’ ²  inheritance in the light.

“There your fathers tested me and tried me, ¹  and they saw my works for forty years.

Jesus replied, ¹  “Do not touch me, for I have not yet ascended to my Father. Go to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
