When you gaze upon riches, ¹  they are gone, for they surely make wings for themselves, and fly off into the sky like an eagle! ² 

for just as the sky ¹  is higher than the earth, so my deeds ²  are superior to ³  your deeds and my plans ⁴  superior to your plans.

You people of Israel should tell those nations this: ‘These gods did not make heaven and earth. They will disappear ¹  from the earth and from under the heavens.’ ² 

But I, the Lord, make the following promise: ¹  I have made a covenant governing the coming of day and night. I have established the fixed laws governing heaven and earth.

I will darken all the lights in the sky over you, and I will darken your land, declares the sovereign Lord.

The earth quakes ¹  before them; ²  the sky reverberates. ³  The sun and the moon grow dark; the stars refuse to shine. ⁴ 

Then ¹  I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth had ceased to exist, ²  and the sea existed no more.

The sun had just risen ¹  over the land as Lot reached Zoar. ² 

The Lord thundered ¹  from the sky; the sovereign One ²  shouted loudly. ³ 

He reached down from above and grabbed me; ¹  he pulled me from the surging water. ² 

He spreads out the northern skies ¹  over empty space; ²  he suspends the earth on nothing. ³ 

By his breath ¹  the skies became fair; his hand pierced the fleeing serpent. ² 

See how he scattered ¹  his lightning ²  about him; he has covered the depths ³  of the sea.

Do you know the laws of the heavens, or can you set up their rule over the earth?

He gave a command to the clouds above, and opened the doors in the sky.

The sky declares his justice, and all the nations see his splendor.

They asked for food, ¹  and he sent quails; he satisfied them with food from the sky. ² 

The Lord is exalted over all the nations; his splendor reaches beyond the sky. ¹ 

He bends down to look ¹  at the sky and the earth.

O Lord, make the sky sink ¹  and come down! ²  Touch the mountains and make them smolder! ³
