“Whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray while standing in synagogues ¹  and on street corners so that people can see them. Truly I say to you, they have their reward.

When they hear about your great reputation ¹  and your ability to accomplish mighty deeds, ²  they will come and direct their prayers toward this temple.

so that they may be offering incense to the God of heaven and may be praying for the good fortune of the king and his family. ¹ 

Then we will shout for joy over your ¹  victory; we will rejoice ²  in the name of our God! May the Lord grant all your requests!

My God, I cry out during the day, but you do not answer, and during the night my prayers do not let up. ¹ 

I mourned for them as I would for a friend or my brother. ¹  I bowed down ²  in sorrow as if I were mourning for my mother. ³ 

For you, O God, hear my vows; you grant me the reward that belongs to your loyal followers. ¹ 

Answer me, O Lord, for your loyal love is good! ¹  Because of your great compassion, turn toward me!

Moses and Aaron were among his priests; Samuel was one of those who prayed to him. ¹  They ²  prayed to the Lord and he answered them.

On that day I will punish all who leap over the threshold, ¹  who fill the house of their master ²  with wealth taken by violence and deceit. ³ 

When ¹  you pray, do not babble repetitiously like the Gentiles, because they think that by their many words they will be heard.

They ¹  do all their deeds to be seen by people, for they make their phylacteries ²  wide and their tassels ³  long.

So he said to them, “When you pray, ¹  say: Father, ²  may your name be honored; ³  may your kingdom come. ⁴ 

Then they prayed, ¹  “Lord, you know the hearts of all. Show us which one of these two you have chosen

When they had appointed elders ¹  for them in the various churches, ²  with prayer and fasting ³  they entrusted them to the protection ⁴  of the Lord in whom they had believed.

which I was doing when they found me in the temple, ritually purified, ¹  without a crowd or a disturbance. ² 

Because they were afraid ¹  that we would run aground on the rocky coast, ²  they threw out ³  four anchors from the stern and wished ⁴  for day to appear. ⁵ 

And he ¹  who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit ²  intercedes on behalf of the saints according to God’s will.

If someone speaks in a tongue, it should be two, or at the most three, one after the other, and someone must interpret.

Now to him who by the power that is working within us ¹  is able to do far beyond ²  all that we ask or think,
