It is better to live ¹  in a desert land ²  than with a quarrelsome and easily-provoked ³  woman.

Do you see ¹  a man wise in his own eyes? ²  There is more hope for a fool ³  than for him.

The one who reproves ¹  another ²  will in the end ³  find more favor than the one who flatters ⁴  with the tongue.

Do you see someone ¹  who is hasty in his words? ²  There is more hope for a fool than for him. ³ 

Surely ¹  I am more brutish ²  than any other human being, ³  and I do not have human understanding; ⁴ 

So I considered ¹  those who are dead and gone ²  more fortunate than those who are still alive. ³ 

Better is one handful with some rest than two hands full of toil ¹  and chasing the wind.

though it never saw the light of day ¹  nor knew anything, ²  yet it has more rest ³  than that man –

Do not say, “Why were the old days better than these days?” ¹  for it is not wise to ask that. ² 

But whoever is among ¹  the living ²  has hope; a live dog is better than a dead lion.

The words of the wise are heard in quiet, more than the shouting of a ruler is heard ¹  among fools.

I overpowered kingdoms ruled by idols, ¹  whose carved images were more impressive than Jerusalem’s ²  or Samaria’s.

O Lord, our God, masters other than you have ruled us, but we praise your name alone.

Then the Lord said to me, “Under the circumstances, wayward Israel could even be considered less guilty than unfaithful Judah. ¹ 

The human mind is more deceitful than anything else. It is incurably bad. ¹  Who can understand it?

He said to me, “Do you see this, son of man? You will see even greater abominations than these!”

He was afraid and said, “What an awesome place this is! This is nothing else than the house of God! This is the gate of heaven!”

Jacob ¹  had marital relations ²  with Rachel as well. He loved Rachel more than Leah, so he worked for Laban ³  for seven more years. ⁴ 

Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his sons ¹  because he was a son born to him late in life, ²  and he made a special ³  tunic for him.

When Joseph’s ¹  brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, ²  they hated Joseph ³  and were not able to speak to him kindly. ⁴
