Neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Look, he has done nothing ¹  deserving death. ² 

He was in the world, and the world was created ¹  by him, but ²  the world did not recognize ³  him.

I did not recognize ¹  him, but I came baptizing with water so that he could be revealed to Israel.” ² 

Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the head steward,” ¹  and they did.

So the disciples began to say ¹  to one another, “No one brought him anything ²  to eat, did they?” ³ 

Jesus stood up straight ¹  and said to her, “Woman, ²  where are they? Did no one condemn you?”

All who came before me were ¹  thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. ² 

Then many of the people, ¹  who had come with Mary and had seen the things Jesus ²  did, believed in him.

But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.

He bent down ¹  and saw the strips of linen cloth lying there, ²  but he did not go in.

Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish.

After an interval of about three hours, ¹  his wife came in, but she did not know ²  what had happened.

But the officers ¹  who came for them ²  did not find them in the prison, so they returned and reported, ³ 

He thought his own people ¹  would understand that God was delivering them ²  through him, ³  but they did not understand. ⁴ 

“You stubborn ¹  people, with uncircumcised ²  hearts and ears! ³  You are always resisting the Holy Spirit, like your ancestors ⁴  did!

When his accusers stood up, they did not charge ¹  him with any of the evil deeds I had suspected. ² 

He ¹  did not waver in unbelief about the promise of God but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God.

These things happened as examples for us, so that we will not crave evil things as they did.

And let us not put Christ ¹  to the test, as some of them did, and were destroyed by snakes. ² 

Now I appeal to God as my witness, ¹  that to spare ²  you I did not come again to Corinth. ³
