I see ¹  one destruction after another taking place, so that the whole land lies in ruins. I see our ²  tents suddenly destroyed, their ³  curtains torn down in a mere instant. ⁴ 

Lord, we know that people do not control their own destiny. ¹  It is not in their power to determine what will happen to them. ² 

After ¹  entering into an alliance with him, he will behave treacherously; he will ascend to power with only a small force. ² 

They ¹  have destroyed our ²  vines; ³  they have turned our ⁴  fig trees into mere splinters. They have completely stripped off the bark ⁵  and thrown them aside; the ⁶  twigs are stripped bare. ⁷ 

He proclaimed, ¹  “One more powerful than I am is coming after me; I am not worthy ²  to bend down and untie the strap ³  of his sandals.

He instructed them to take nothing for the journey except a staff ¹  – no bread, no bag, ²  no money in their belts –

Jesus looked at them and replied, “This is impossible for mere humans, ¹  but not for God; all things are possible for God.”

“Everyone who comes to me and listens to my words and puts them into practice ¹  – I will show you what he is like:

and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for an image resembling mortal human beings ¹  or birds or four-footed animals ²  or reptiles.

And do you think, ¹  whoever you are, when you judge ²  those who practice such things and yet do them yourself, ³  that you will escape God’s judgment?

For no one is declared righteous before him ¹  by the works of the law, ²  for through the law comes ³  the knowledge of sin.

Or do you not know that anyone who is united with ¹  a prostitute is one body with her? ²  For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.” ³ 

With regard to food sacrificed to idols, we know that “we all have knowledge.” ¹  Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.

And what you sow is not the body that is to be, but a bare seed ¹  – perhaps of wheat or something else.

It is the same with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable, what is raised is imperishable. ¹ 

Do not be deceived. God will not be made a fool. ¹  For a person ²  will reap what he sows,

Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh – who are called “uncircumcision” by the so-called “circumcision” that is performed on the body ¹  by human hands –

and thus to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled up to ¹  all the fullness of God.

nor to occupy themselves with myths and interminable genealogies. ¹  Such things promote useless speculations rather than God’s redemptive plan ²  that operates by faith.

no longer as a slave, ¹  but more than a slave, as a dear brother. He is especially so to me, and even more so to you now, both humanly speaking ²  and in the Lord.
