The one who lacks wisdom ¹  strikes hands in pledge, ²  and puts up financial security ³  for his neighbor. ⁴ 

Do not lie in wait like the wicked ¹  against the place where the righteous live; do not assault ²  his home.

“Why do you try to refute me? ¹  All of you have rebelled against me,” says the Lord.

Do not let anyone accuse or contend against anyone else: ¹  for my case is against you priests! ² 

They wanted to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowds, because the crowds ¹  regarded him as a prophet.

But Jesus realized their evil intentions and said, “Hypocrites! Why are you testing me?

In the same way, on the outside you look righteous to people, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

Then ¹  he called the crowd again and said to them, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand.

Then ¹  they sent some of the Pharisees ²  and Herodians ³  to trap him with his own words. ⁴ 

Jesus ¹  answered him, ²  “It is said, ‘You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.’” ³ 

Give to everyone who asks you, ¹  and do not ask for your possessions ²  back ³  from the person who takes them away.

Whoever tries to keep ¹  his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life ²  will preserve it.

Since I wanted to know ¹  what charge they were accusing him of, ²  I brought him down to their council. ³ 

This is the reason ¹  I do my best to always ²  have a clear ³  conscience toward God and toward people. ⁴ 

For the law brings wrath, because where there is no law there is no transgression ¹  either.

So then, let us pursue what makes for peace and for building up one another.

Pursue love and be eager for the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.

But as God is faithful, our message to you is not “Yes” and “No.”

We do not give anyone ¹  an occasion for taking an offense in anything, ²  so that no fault may be found with our ministry.

Slaves ¹  are to be subject to their own masters in everything, ²  to do what is wanted and not talk back,
