For it is clear that our Lord is descended from Judah, yet Moses said nothing about priests in connection with that tribe.

Beyond the Jordan east of Jericho ¹  they selected ²  Bezer in the desert on the plain belonging to the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead belonging to the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan belonging to the tribe of Manasseh.

When Balaam lifted up his eyes, he saw Israel camped tribe by tribe; ¹  and the Spirit of God came upon him.

And when the Jubilee of the Israelites is to take place, ¹  their inheritance will be added to the inheritance of the tribe into which they marry. So their inheritance will be taken away from the inheritance of our ancestral tribe.” ² 

The rest of Kohath’s descendants were allotted ten cities in the territory of the half-tribe of Manasseh. ¹ 

Next will be ¹  the tribe of Zebulun. The leader of the people of Zebulun is Eliab son of Helon.

Next will be ¹  the tribe of Gad. The leader of the people of Gad is Eliasaph son of Deuel. ² 

Next to them will be the tribe of Manasseh. The leader of the people of Manasseh is Gamaliel son of Pedahzur.

Next will be ¹  the tribe of Naphtali. The leader of the people of Naphtali is Ahira son of Enan.

These are the names of the men: from the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;

From the Josephites, Hanniel son of Ephod, a leader from the tribe of Manasseh;

I thought this was a good idea, ¹  so I sent ²  twelve men from among you, one from each tribe.

Joshua summoned the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites, one per tribe.

However, Moses did not assign land as an inheritance ¹  to the Levites; their inheritance ²  is the Lord God of Israel, as he instructed ³  them.

These cities belonged to the tribe ¹  of Benjamin by its clans: Jericho, ²  Beth Hoglah, Emek Keziz,

The clans of Kohath’s descendants also received territory within the tribe of Ephraim. ¹ 

Within the territory of the tribe of Issachar: Kedesh and its pasturelands, Daberath and its pasturelands,

The descendants of Moses the man of God were considered Levites. ¹ 

Hoshea son of Azaziah led the Ephraimites, Joel son of Pedaiah led the half-tribe of Manasseh,

And every daughter who possesses an inheritance from any of the tribes of the Israelites must become the wife of a man from any family in her father’s tribe, so that every Israelite ¹  may retain the inheritance of his fathers.
