For Herod himself had sent men, arrested John, and bound him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because Herod ¹  had married her.

The four victorious kings ¹  took all the possessions and food of Sodom and Gomorrah and left.

Now the Philistines had captured the ark of God and brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.

The fatherless child is snatched ¹  from the breast, ²  the infant of the poor is taken as a pledge. ³ 

“And now my soul pours itself out within me; ¹  days of suffering take hold of me.

The produce of the land is seized ¹  by all of them, even the king is served ²  by the fields. ³ 

Everyone who is caught will be stabbed; everyone who is seized ¹  will die ²  by the sword.

My heart is crushed because my dear people ¹  are being crushed. ²  I go about crying and grieving. I am overwhelmed with dismay. ³ 

The people of the earth will quake when they hear Babylon has been captured. Her cries of anguish will be heard by the other nations.” ¹ 

But Jesus, paying no attention to what was said, told the synagogue ruler, “Do not be afraid; just believe.”

They kept this statement to themselves, discussing what this rising from the dead meant.

For ¹  Peter ²  and all who were with him were astonished ³  at the catch of fish that they had taken,

But when Jesus heard this, he told ¹  him, “Do not be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.” ² 

“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father is well pleased ¹  to give you the kingdom.

The God of our forefathers ¹  raised up Jesus, whom you seized and killed by hanging him on a tree. ² 

Therefore it says, “When he ascended on high he captured ¹  captives; he gave gifts to men.” ² 

The men refused to listen to him, so the Levite ¹  grabbed his concubine and made her go outside. ²  They raped ³  her and abused her all night long until morning. They let her go at dawn.

Now ¹  the beast was seized, and along with him the false prophet who had performed the signs on his behalf ²  – signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. Both of them were thrown alive into the lake of fire burning with sulfur. ³ 

The Israelites took the women of Midian captives along with their little ones, and took all their herds, all their flocks, and all their goods as plunder.

At that time we seized all his cities and put every one of them ¹  under divine judgment, ²  including even the women and children; we left no survivors.
