For he knows no satisfaction in his appetite; ¹  he does not let anything he desires ²  escape. ³ 

So how can you console me with your futile words? Nothing is left of your answers but deception!” ¹ 

But he is unchangeable, ¹  and who can change ²  him? Whatever he ³  has desired, he does.

During his days the godly will flourish; ¹  peace will prevail as long as the moon remains in the sky. ² 

You cause my friends and neighbors to keep their distance; ¹  those who know me leave me alone in the darkness. ² 

The truly wise person ¹  restrains ²  his words, and the one who stays calm ³  is discerning.

Even a fool who remains silent is considered ¹  wise, and the one who holds his tongue is deemed discerning. ² 

There is desirable treasure and olive oil ¹  in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish person ²  devours all he has. ³

“Is it right for you to live in richly paneled houses ¹  while my temple is in ruins? ² 

The one who eats ¹  my flesh and drinks my blood resides in me, and I in him. ²

but the word of the Lord ¹  endures forever. ²  And this is the word that was proclaimed to you.

But if the bright spot stays in its place, has not spread on the skin, ¹  and it has faded, then it is the swelling of the burn, so the priest is to pronounce him clean, ²  because it is the scar of the burn.

So ¹  he is to make atonement for the holy place from the impurities of the Israelites and from their transgressions with regard to all their sins, ²  and thus he is to do for the Meeting Tent which resides with them in the midst of their impurities.

Anyone who touches the corpse of any dead person and does not purify himself defiles the tabernacle of the Lord. And that person must be cut off from Israel, ¹  because the water of purification was not sprinkled on him. He will be unclean; his uncleanness remains on him.

He hung the king of Ai on a tree, leaving him exposed until evening. ¹  At sunset Joshua ordered that his corpse be taken down from the tree. ²  They threw it down at the entrance of the city gate and erected over it a large pile of stones (it remains to this very day). ³ 

“The rest, on both sides of the holy allotment and the property of the city, will belong to the prince.
