But Abraham said, ¹  ‘They have Moses and the prophets; they must respond to ²  them.’

Then he opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures, ¹ 

and was returning home, sitting ¹  in his chariot, reading ²  the prophet Isaiah.

and in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, because the sky is red and darkening.’ ¹  You know how to judge correctly the appearance of the sky, ²  but you cannot evaluate the signs of the times.

Now the passage of scripture the man ¹  was reading was this: “He was led like a sheep to slaughter, and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he did ²  not open his mouth.

The report they sent to him was written as follows: ¹  “To King Darius: All greetings! ² 

The Lord always proves faithful and reliable ¹  to those who follow the demands of his covenant. ² 

Then I say, “Look! I come! What is written in the scroll pertains to me. ¹ 

For my days go up in smoke, ¹  and my bones are charred like a fireplace. ² 

Death and Destruction ¹  are before the Lord – how much more ²  the hearts of humans! ³ 

My lover thrust his hand ¹  through ²  the hole, ³  and my feelings ⁴  were stirred ⁵  for him.

I spelled out my law for him in great detail, but they regard it as something totally unknown ¹  to them!

and Josiah ¹  the father of Jeconiah and his brothers, at the time of the deportation to Babylon.

Then ¹  he began to tell them, “Today ²  this scripture has been fulfilled even as you heard it being read.” ³ 

There was also an inscription ¹  over him, “This is the king of the Jews.”

He did not need anyone to testify about man, ¹  for he knew what was in man. ² 

So when they were dismissed, ¹  they went down to Antioch, ²  and after gathering the entire group ³  together, they delivered the letter.

For what does the scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited ¹  to him as righteousness.” ² 

The one who is spiritual discerns ¹  all things, yet he himself is understood ²  by no one.

For this reason a woman should have a symbol of authority ¹  on her head, because of the angels. ²
