On my right the young rabble ¹  rise up; they drive me from place to place, ²  and build up siege ramps ³  against me. ⁴ 

He lifts a signal flag for a distant nation, ¹  he whistles for it to come from the far regions of the earth. Look, they ²  come quickly and swiftly.

They ¹  lift their voices and shout joyfully; they praise ²  the majesty of the Lord in the west.

They are saying, ¹  ‘Announce to the surrounding nations, ²  “The enemy is coming!” ³  Proclaim this message ⁴  to Jerusalem: “Those who besiege cities ⁵  are coming from a distant land. They are ready to raise the battle cry against ⁶  the towns in Judah.”’

Then you will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and raise you from your graves, my people.

Blow the ram’s horn in Gibeah! Sound the trumpet in Ramah! Sound the alarm in Beth Aven! ¹  Tremble in fear, ²  O Benjamin!

My people are obsessed ¹  with turning away from me; ²  they call to Baal, ³  but he will never exalt them!

Look! I am rousing them from that place to which you sold them. I will repay you for what you have done! ¹ 

I have ¹  a hope in God (a hope ²  that ³  these men ⁴  themselves accept too) that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous. ⁵ 

He will yet ¹  fill your mouth with laughter, ²  and your lips with gladness.

But you have said, ‘What does God know? Does he judge through such deep darkness? ¹ 

Raise me to a position of great honor! ¹  Turn and comfort me! ² 

I collapse ¹  from grief. Sustain me by your word! ² 

“To you, O people, ¹  I call out, and my voice calls ²  to all mankind. ³ 

“Do not get married and do not have children here in this land.

Shout the battle cry from all around the city. She will throw up her hands in surrender. ¹  Her towers ²  will fall. Her walls will be torn down. Because I, the Lord, am wreaking revenge, ³  take out your vengeance on her! Do to her as she has done!

“And you, sing ¹  a lament for the princes of Israel,

The Lord will raise up a distant nation against you, one from the other side of the earth ¹  as the eagle flies, ²  a nation whose language you will not understand,

Now Joshua had instructed the army, ¹  “Do not give a battle cry ²  or raise your voices; say nothing ³  until the day I tell you, ‘Give the battle cry.’ ⁴  Then give the battle cry!” ⁵ 

Manoah prayed to the Lord, ¹  “Please, Lord, allow the man sent from God ²  to visit ³  us again, so he can teach ⁴  us how we should raise ⁵  the child who will be born.”
