Her officials are like wolves in her midst rending their prey – shedding blood and destroying lives – so they can get dishonest profit.

Fast runners will find no place to hide; ¹  strong men will have no strength left; ²  warriors will not be able to save their lives.

“I destroyed ¹  nations; their walled cities ²  are in ruins. I turned their streets into ruins; no one passes through them. Their cities are desolate; ³  no one lives there. ⁴ 

“Men, I can see the voyage is going to end ¹  in disaster ²  and great loss not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives.” ³ 

For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh. For I want to do the good, but I cannot do it. ¹ 

Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer me doing it but sin that lives in me.

Now I will most gladly spend and be spent for your lives! ¹  If I love you more, am I to be loved less?

He alone possesses immortality and lives in unapproachable light, whom no human has ever seen or is able to see. To him be honor and eternal power! Amen.

It trains us ¹  to reject godless ways ²  and worldly desires and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,

For we too were once foolish, disobedient, misled, enslaved to various passions and desires, spending our lives in evil and envy, hateful and hating one another.

So he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

Remember your leaders, who spoke God’s message to you; reflect on the outcome of their lives and imitate their faith.

Since all these things are to melt away ¹  in this manner, ²  what sort of people must we ³  be, conducting our lives in holiness and godliness, ⁴ 

We have come to know love by this: ¹  that Jesus ²  laid down ³  his life for us; thus we ought to lay down our lives for our fellow Christians.

and the one who lives! I ¹  was dead, but look, now I am alive – forever and ever – and I hold the keys of death and of Hades! ² 

And whenever the living creatures give glory, honor, ¹  and thanks to the one who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever,

Then ¹  one of the four living creatures gave the seven angels seven golden bowls filled with the wrath ²  of God who lives forever and ever,

cinnamon, spice, ¹  incense, perfumed ointment, ²  frankincense, ³  wine, olive oil and costly flour, ⁴  wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and four-wheeled carriages, ⁵  slaves and human lives. ⁶ 

and said, “God forbid that I should do this! ¹  Should I drink the blood of these men who risked their lives?” ²  Because they risked their lives to bring it to him, he refused to drink it. Such were the exploits of the three elite warriors. ³ 

Even if a man fathers a hundred children and lives many years – even if he lives a long, long time, ¹  but cannot enjoy his prosperity – even if he were to live forever ²  – I would say, “A stillborn child ³  is better off than he is!” ⁴
