Thus the law had become our guardian ¹  until Christ, so that we could be declared righteous ²  by faith.

I wish I could be with you now and change my tone of voice, ¹  because I am perplexed about you.

So, although I have quite a lot of confidence in Christ and could command you to do what is proper,

Now when God made his promise to Abraham, since he could swear by no one greater, he swore by himself,

Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Is my father still alive?” His brothers could not answer him because they were dumbfounded before him.

All the Egyptians dug around the Nile for water to drink, ¹  because they could not drink the water of the Nile.

When ¹  the magicians attempted ²  to bring forth gnats by their secret arts, they could not. So there were gnats on people and on animals.

The magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils, for boils were on the magicians and on all the Egyptians.

For by now I could have stretched out ¹  my hand and struck you and your people with plague, and you would have been destroyed ²  from the earth.

So they gathered it each morning, ¹  each person according to what he could eat, and when the sun got hot, it would melt. ² 

All the Israelites who were twenty years old or older, who could serve in Israel’s army, were numbered ¹  according to their families.

Moses ¹  said, “Do not leave us, ²  because you know places for us to camp in the wilderness, and you could be our guide. ³ 

Then the Lord spoke to you from the middle of the fire; you heard speech but you could not see anything – only a voice was heard. ¹ 

Anyone who accidentally killed someone ¹  without hating him at the time of the accident ²  could flee to one of those cities and be safe.

Joshua prayed, ¹  “O, Master, Lord! Why did you bring these people across the Jordan to hand us over to the Amorites so they could destroy us?

The Lord made them secure, ¹  in fulfillment of all he had solemnly promised their ancestors. ²  None of their enemies could resist them. ³
