When the news reached Joab (for Joab had supported ¹  Adonijah, although he had not supported Absalom), he ²  ran to the tent of the Lord and grabbed hold of the horns of the altar. ³ 

So the Lord is furious ¹  with his people; he lifts ²  his hand and strikes them. The mountains shake, and corpses lie like manure ³  in the middle of the streets. Despite all this, his anger does not subside, and his hand is ready to strike again. ⁴ 

Then Isaac built an altar there and worshiped ¹  the Lord. He pitched his tent there, and his servants dug a well. ² 

Then he purchased the portion of the field where he had pitched his tent; he bought it ¹  from the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for a hundred pieces of money. ² 

At that time Judah left ¹  his brothers and stayed ²  with an Adullamite man ³  named Hirah.

But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him kindness. ¹  He granted him favor in the sight of the prison warden. ² 

When he sees ¹  a good resting place, and the pleasant land, he will bend his shoulder to the burden and become a slave laborer. ² 

Then ¹  the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord, when I extend my hand ²  over Egypt and bring the Israelites out from among them.

So Aaron extended his hand over the waters of Egypt, and frogs ¹  came up and covered the land of Egypt.

¹ The Lord said to Moses, “Extend your hand toward heaven ²  so that there may be ³  darkness over the land of Egypt, a darkness so thick it can be felt.” ⁴ 

So Moses extended his hand toward heaven, and there was absolute darkness ¹  throughout the land of Egypt for three days. ² 

And as for you, ¹  lift up your staff and extend your hand toward the sea and divide it, so that ²  the Israelites may go through the middle of the sea on dry ground.

The Lord said to Moses, “Extend your hand toward the sea, so that the waters may flow ¹  back on the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen!”

“Let us ¹  pass through your land; ²  we will not turn aside into the fields or into the vineyards, nor will we drink water from any well, but we will go along the King’s Highway until we pass your borders.”

Then the angel of the Lord went farther, and stood in a narrow place, where there was no way to turn either to the right or to the left.

You must not pervert justice or show favor. Do not take a bribe, for bribes blind the eyes of the wise and distort ¹  the words of the righteous. ² 

When he held out his hand, the men waiting in ambush rose up quickly from their place and attacked. ¹  They entered the city, captured it, and immediately set it on fire.

Joshua kept holding out his curved sword until Israel had annihilated all who lived in Ai. ¹ 

Joshua said, ¹  “Now put aside the foreign gods that are among you and submit to ²  the Lord God of Israel.”

Now Heber the Kenite had moved away ¹  from the Kenites, the descendants of Hobab, Moses’ father-in-law. He lived ²  near the great tree in Zaanannim near Kedesh.
