The first lot belonged to ¹  the Kohathite clans. The Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest were allotted thirteen cities from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin.

They allotted these previously named cities from the territory of the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin. ¹

So a thousand from every tribe, twelve thousand armed for battle in all, were provided out of the thousands of Israel.

You must take one leader from every ¹  tribe to assist in allocating the land as an inheritance. ²
