Saul himself was in the thick of the battle; ¹  the archers ²  spotted him and wounded him severely.

The king of Israel went home to Samaria ¹  bitter and angry.

So he sent horses and chariots there, along with a good-sized army. ¹  They arrived during the night and surrounded the city.

King Shalmaneser of Assyria threatened ¹  him; Hoshea became his subject and paid him tribute.
