For ¹  the Lord gives ²  wisdom, and from his mouth ³  comes ⁴  knowledge and understanding.

to guard ¹  the paths of the righteous ²  and to protect ³  the way of his pious ones. ⁴ 

By wisdom the Lord laid the foundation of the earth; ¹  he established the heavens by understanding. ² 

My child, do not let them ¹  escape from your sight; safeguard sound wisdom and discretion. ² 

My child, ²  be attentive to my wisdom, pay close attention ³  to my understanding,

Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” ¹  and call understanding a close relative,

Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice?

At the top ¹  of the elevated places along the way, at the intersection ²  of the paths she takes her stand;

The memory ¹  of the righteous is a blessing, but the reputation ²  of the wicked will rot. ³ 

The reward ¹  which the righteous receive ²  is life; the recompense ³  which the wicked receive ⁴  is judgment. ⁵ 

The teaching ¹  of the righteous feeds ²  many, but fools die ³  for lack of wisdom. ⁴ 

What the wicked fears ¹  will come on him; what the righteous desire ²  will be granted. ³ 

The righteous will never be moved, but the wicked will not inhabit the land. ¹ 

When pride ¹  comes, ²  then comes disgrace, ³  but with humility ⁴  comes ⁵  wisdom.

The righteous person is delivered ¹  out of trouble, and the wicked turns up in his stead. ² 

The plans ¹  of the righteous are just; the counsels of the wicked are deceitful. ² 

The wicked are overthrown ¹  and perish, ²  but the righteous household ³  will stand.

The righteous do not encounter ¹  any harm, ²  but the wicked are filled with calamity. ³ 

The righteous person hates anything false, ¹  but the wicked person acts in shameful disgrace. ² 

With pride ¹  comes only ²  contention, but wisdom is with the well-advised. ³
