Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you.” And all the disciples said the same thing.

But Peter ¹  insisted emphatically, ²  “Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you.” And all of them said the same thing.

So Thomas (called Didymus ¹ ) ²  said to his fellow disciples, “Let us go too, so that we may die with him.” ³ 

(Now he did not say this on his own, ¹  but because he was high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the Jewish nation, ² 

The Jewish leaders ¹  replied, ²  “We have a law, ³  and according to our law he ought to die, because he claimed to be the Son of God!” ⁴ 

The king chanted the following lament for Abner: “Should Abner have died like a fool?

We know ¹  that since Christ has been raised from the dead, he is never going to die ²  again; death no longer has mastery over him.

Then Israel said to Joseph, “I am about to die, but God will be with you ¹  and will bring you back to the land of your fathers.

Now four men with a skin disease ¹  were sitting at the entrance of the city gate. They said to one another, “Why are we just sitting here waiting to die? ² 

I will never ¹  declare that you three ²  are in the right; until I die, I will not set aside my integrity!

Listen to the painful cries of the prisoners! ¹  Use your great strength to set free those condemned to die! ² 

A time to be born, ¹  and a time to die; ²  a time to plant, and a time to uproot what was planted;

I will kill everything living in Jerusalem, ¹  people and animals alike! They will die from terrible diseases.

There is no reason why you and your people should die in war ¹  or from starvation or disease! ²  That’s what the Lord says will happen to any nation ³  that will not be subject to the king of Babylon.

Rather, each person will die for his own sins. The teeth of the person who eats the sour grapes will themselves grow numb. ¹ 

They will bring you down to the pit, and you will die violently ¹  in the heart of the seas.

All the sinners among my people will die by the sword – the ones who say, ‘Disaster will not come near, it will not confront us.’

In fact, they can no longer die, because they are equal to angels ¹  and are sons of God, since they are ²  sons ³  of the resurrection.

You do not realize ¹  that it is more to your advantage to have one man ²  die for the people than for the whole nation to perish.” ³ 

(Now it was Caiaphas who had advised ¹  the Jewish leaders ²  that it was to their advantage that one man die for the people.) ³
