But they dared ¹  to go up to the crest of the hill, although ²  neither the ark of the covenant of the Lord nor Moses departed from the camp.

And he revealed to you the covenant ¹  he has commanded you to keep, the ten commandments, ²  writing them on two stone tablets.

He ¹  did not make this covenant with our ancestors ²  but with us, we who are here today, all of us living now.

Now at the end of the forty days and nights the Lord presented me with the two stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant.

So I turned and went down the mountain while it ¹  was blazing with fire; the two tablets of the covenant were in my hands.

So when the people left their tents to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant went ¹  ahead of them.

The Israelites asked the Lord (for the ark of God’s covenant was there in those days;

When the ark of the covenant of the Lord arrived at the camp, all Israel shouted so loudly ¹  that the ground shook.

When the two of them had made a covenant before the Lord, David stayed on at Horesh, but Jonathan went to his house.

The king ordered all the people, “Observe the Passover of the Lord your God, as prescribed in this scroll of the covenant.”

When God helped the Levites who were carrying the ark of the Lord’s covenant, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams.

Jehoiada then drew up a covenant stipulating that he, all the people, and the king should be loyal to the Lord. ¹ 

Now I intend ¹  to make a covenant with the Lord God of Israel, so that he may relent from his raging anger. ² 

He delivered his people; ¹  he ordained that his covenant be observed forever. ²  His name is holy and awesome.

If your sons keep my covenant and the rules I teach them, their sons will also sit on your throne forever.”

Tell them that the Lord, the God of Israel, says, ‘Anyone who does not keep the terms of the covenant will be under a curse. ¹ 

The answer will come back, “It is because they broke their covenant with the Lord their God and worshiped and served other gods.”

“Indeed, a time is coming,” says the Lord, ¹  “when I will make a new covenant ²  with the people of Israel and Judah. ³ 

“‘For this is what the sovereign Lord says: I will deal with you according to what you have done when you despised your oath by breaking your covenant.

Then with smooth words he will defile ¹  those who have rejected ²  the covenant. But the people who are loyal to ³  their God will act valiantly. ⁴
