If ¹  his sons are honored, ²  he does not know it; ³  if they are brought low, he does not see ⁴  it.

Look, I am just like you in relation to God; I too have been molded ¹  from clay.

Tell us what we should ¹  say to him. We cannot prepare a case ²  because of the darkness.

Certainly ¹  the Lord is just; ²  he rewards godly deeds; ³  the upright will experience his favor. ⁴ 

Some trust in chariots and others in horses, ¹  but we ²  depend on ³  the Lord our God.

The Lord supports ¹  him on his sickbed; you completely heal him from his illness. ² 

We have become an object of disdain to our neighbors; those who live on our borders taunt and insult us. ¹ 

For you give them splendor and strength. ¹  By your favor we are victorious. ² 

We have had our fill ¹  of the taunts of the self-assured, of the contempt of the proud.

The steps of a person ¹  are ordained by ²  the Lord – so how can anyone ³  understand his own ⁴  way?

“We will not listen to what you claim the Lord has spoken to us! ¹ 

Because of this, our hearts are sick; ¹  because of these things, we can hardly see ²  through our tears. ³ 

Bring us back to yourself, O Lord, so that we may return ¹  to you; renew our life ²  as in days before, ³ 

You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill cannot be hidden.

For everyone who asks ¹  receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

But if we say, ‘From people,’ we fear the crowd, for they all consider John to be a prophet.”

For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels ¹  in heaven.

They ¹  heaped insults ²  on him, saying, ³  “You are his disciple! ⁴  We are disciples of Moses!

And how is it that each one of us hears them ¹  in our own native language? ² 

You killed ¹  the Originator ²  of life, whom God raised ³  from the dead. To this fact we are witnesses! ⁴
