So they went up from Egypt and came to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan. ¹ 

These were the sons of Rachel who were born to Jacob, fourteen in all.

All the people ¹  who were directly descended ²  from Jacob numbered seventy. ³  But Joseph was already in Egypt, ⁴ 

God heard their groaning, ¹  God remembered ²  his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob,

He picked out for us a special land ¹  to be a source of pride for ²  Jacob, ³  whom he loves. ⁴  (Selah)

You delivered ¹  your people by your strength ²  – the children of Jacob and Joseph. (Selah)

“You, my servant Israel, Jacob whom I have chosen, offspring of Abraham my friend, ¹ 

Now listen to what the Lord has to say, you descendants ¹  of Jacob, all you family groups from the nation ²  of Israel.

I said, “Sovereign Lord, stop! How can Jacob survive? ¹  He is too weak!” ² 

“Since, I, the Lord, do not go back on my promises, ¹  you, sons of Jacob, have not perished.

and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, by whom ¹  Jesus was born, who is called Christ. ² 

So when Jacob heard that there was grain ¹  in Egypt, he sent our ancestors ²  there ³  the first time.

So Joseph sent a message ¹  and invited ²  his father Jacob and all his relatives to come, seventy-five people ³  in all.

Isaac had just finished blessing Jacob, and Jacob had scarcely left ¹  his father’s ²  presence, when his brother Esau returned from the hunt. ³ 

So Isaac sent Jacob on his way, and he went to Paddan Aram, to Laban son of Bethuel the Aramean and brother of Rebekah, the mother of Jacob and Esau.

Jacob heard that Laban’s sons were complaining, ¹  “Jacob has taken everything that belonged to our father! He has gotten rich ²  at our father’s expense!” ³ 

So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods that were in their possession ¹  and the rings that were in their ears. ²  Jacob buried them ³  under the oak ⁴  near Shechem

Bilhah became pregnant ¹  and gave Jacob a son. ² 

Pharaoh said to Jacob, “How long have you lived?” ¹ 

When Jacob heard ¹  there was grain in Egypt, he ²  said to his sons, “Why are you looking at each other?” ³
