where for forty days he endured temptations ¹  from the devil. He ²  ate nothing ³  during those days, and when they were completed, ⁴  he was famished.

Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man from the tribe of Benjamin, who ruled ¹  forty years.

Now Moses was faithful in all God’s ¹  house ²  as a servant, to testify to the things that would be spoken.

On the fourth day they woke up early and the Levite got ready to leave. ¹  But the girl’s father said to his son-in-law, “Have a bite to eat for some energy, ²  then you can go.”

Joash was determined to repair the Lord’s temple. ¹ 

After this Job opened his mouth ²  and cursed ³  the day he was born. ⁴ 

“How long until you ¹  make an end of words? ²  You must consider, ³  and then ⁴  we can talk.

And at the end of your life ¹  you will groan ²  when your flesh and your body are wasted away. ³ 

Afterward ¹  it bites like a snake, and stings like a viper.

If ¹  someone pampers his servant from youth, he will be a weakling ²  in the end.

But for now I, the Lord, say: ¹  “I will send many enemies who will catch these people like fishermen. After that I will send others who will hunt them out like hunters from all the mountains, all the hills, and the crevices in the rocks. ² 

Finally he sent his son to them, ¹  saying, ‘They will respect my son.’

After saying good-bye to them, he went to the mountain to pray.

After this ¹  there was a Jewish feast, ²  and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. ³ 

After these days we got ready ¹  and started up ²  to Jerusalem.

Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.

Then ¹  I, the Lord, promise that ²  I will hand over King Zedekiah of Judah, his officials, and any of the people who survive the war, starvation, and disease. I will hand them over to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and to their enemies who want to kill them. He will slaughter them with the sword. He will not show them any mercy, compassion, or pity.’

¹ The Lord said to Moses, “I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt; after that he will release you from this place. When he releases you, ²  he will drive you out completely ³  from this place.

Again he measured 1,750 feet and it was a river I could not cross, for the water had risen; it was deep enough to swim in, a river that could not be crossed.

Then he will turn his attention ¹  to the coastal regions and will capture many of them. But a commander ²  will bring his shameful conduct to a halt; in addition, ³  he will make him pay for his shameful conduct. ⁴
