In light of all this, ¹  how can you still hold back, Lord? How can you be silent and continue to humiliate us?

The Lord told me, ¹  “Make a yoke ²  out of leather straps and wooden crossbars and put it on your neck.

So the Pharisees ¹  objected, ²  “You testify about yourself; your testimony is not true!” ³ 

Be prepared ¹  in the morning, and go up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and station yourself ²  for me there on the top of the mountain.

‘You displayed a sensitive spirit ¹  and humbled yourself before God when you heard his words concerning this place and its residents. You humbled yourself before me, tore your clothes and wept before me, and I have heard you,’ says the Lord.

And you, Zion, city doomed to destruction, ¹  you accomplish nothing ²  by wearing a beautiful dress, ³  decking yourself out in jewels of gold, and putting on eye shadow! ⁴  You are making yourself beautiful for nothing. Your lovers spurn you. They want to kill you. ⁵ 

The Jewish leaders ¹  replied, ²  “We are not going to stone you for a good deed ³  but for blasphemy, ⁴  because ⁵  you, a man, are claiming to be God.” ⁶ 

But because of your stubbornness ¹  and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath for yourselves in the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgment is revealed! ² 

Surely then you will delight yourself ¹  in the Almighty, and will lift up your face toward God.

I do not turn aside from your regulations, for you teach me.

If I had acted at risk of my own life ¹  – and nothing is hidden from the king! – you would have abandoned me.” ² 

You have sinned more than all who came before you. You went and angered me by making other gods, formed out of metal; you have completely disregarded me. ¹ 

You took some of your clothing and made for yourself decorated high places; you engaged in prostitution on them. You went to him to become his. ¹ 

By your wisdom and understanding you have gained wealth for yourself; you have amassed gold and silver in your treasuries.

So Agrippa ¹  said to Paul, “You have permission ²  to speak for yourself.” Then Paul held out his hand ³  and began his defense: ⁴ 

The faith ¹  you have, keep to yourself before God. Blessed is the one who does not judge himself by what he approves.

Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who does not need to be ashamed, teaching the message of truth accurately. ¹ 

“They even sent for men from far away; when the messenger arrived, those men set out. ¹  For them you bathed, ²  painted your eyes, and decorated yourself with jewelry.

and saying, “You who can destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! ¹  If you are God’s Son, come down ²  from the cross!”

The expert ¹  answered, “Love ²  the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, ³  and love your neighbor as yourself.” ⁴
