Where is the wise man? Where is the expert in the Mosaic law? ¹  Where is the debater of this age? Has God not made the wisdom of the world foolish?

(the world was not worthy of them); they wandered in deserts and mountains and caves and openings in the earth.

A psalm of David. The Lord owns the earth and all it contains, the world and all who live in it.

Your thunderous voice was heard in the wind; the lightning bolts lit up the world; the earth trembled and shook. ¹ 

Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns! The world is established, it cannot be moved. He judges the nations fairly.”

Is this the one who made the world like a desert, who ruined its ¹  cities, and refused to free his prisoners so they could return home?”’ ² 

Come near, you nations, and listen! Pay attention, you people! The earth and everything it contains must listen, the world and everything that lives in it. ¹ 

The field is the world and the good seed are the people ¹  of the kingdom. The weeds are the people ²  of the evil one,

For then there will be great suffering ¹  unlike anything that has happened ²  from the beginning of the world until now, or ever will happen.

I tell you the truth, ¹  wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”

The world cannot hate you, but it hates me, because I am testifying about it that its deeds are evil.

do you say about the one whom the Father set apart ¹  and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’?

Thus the Pharisees ¹  said to one another, “You see that you can do nothing. Look, the world has run off after him!”

The one who loves his life ¹  destroys ²  it, and the one who hates his life in this world guards ³  it for eternal life.

I have come as a light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me should not remain in darkness.

In a little while ¹  the world will not see me any longer, but you will see me; because I live, you will live too.

“Lord,” Judas (not Judas Iscariot) ¹  said, ²  “what has happened that you are going to reveal ³  yourself to us and not to the world?”

I will not speak with you much longer, ¹  for the ruler of this world is coming. ²  He has no power over me, ³ 

And now, Father, glorify me at your side ¹  with the glory I had with you before the world was created. ² 

I am praying ¹  on behalf of them. I am not praying ²  on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those you have given me, because they belong to you. ³
