This is another misfortune: ¹  Just as he came, so will he go. What did he gain from toiling for the wind?

It is better to be content with ¹  what the eyes can see ²  than for one’s heart always to crave more. ³  This continual longing ⁴  is futile – like ⁵  chasing the wind.

But ¹  the Lord hurled ²  a powerful ³  wind on the sea. Such a violent ⁴  tempest arose on the sea that ⁵  the ship threatened to break up! ⁶ 

When a gentle south wind sprang up, they thought ¹  they could carry out ²  their purpose, so they weighed anchor ³  and sailed close along the coast ⁴  of Crete.

When the ship was caught in it ¹  and could not head into ²  the wind, we gave way to it and were driven ³  along.

But ¹  you blew with your breath, and ²  the sea covered them. They sank ³  like lead in the mighty waters.

He remembered ¹  that they were made of flesh, and were like a wind that blows past and does not return. ² 

He then orders it all to melt; ¹  he breathes on it, ²  and the water flows.

You will winnow them and the wind will blow them away; the wind will scatter them. You will rejoice in the Lord; you will boast in the Holy One of Israel.

The prophets will prove to be full of wind. ¹  The Lord has not spoken through them. ²  So, let what they say happen to them.’”

Your rowers have brought you into surging waters. The east wind has wrecked you in the heart of the seas.

But when he saw the strong wind he became afraid. And starting to sink, he cried out, ¹  “Lord, save me!”

Suddenly ¹  a sound ²  like a violent wind blowing ³  came from heaven ⁴  and filled the entire house where they were sitting.

Moses stretched out his hand toward the sea, and the Lord drove the sea apart ¹  by a strong east wind all that night, and he made the sea into dry land, and the water was divided.

“At that time the people of Judah and Jerusalem ¹  will be told, ‘A scorching wind will sweep down from the hilltops in the desert on ²  my dear people. ³  It will not be a gentle breeze for winnowing the grain and blowing away the chaff. ⁴ 

The wind ¹  blows wherever it will, and you hear the sound it makes, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” ² 

May the Lord rain down ¹  burning coals ²  and brimstone ³  on the wicked! A whirlwind is what they deserve! ⁴ 

All his retinue – his attendants and his troops – I will scatter to every wind; I will unleash a sword behind them.

and the stars in the sky ¹  fell to the earth like a fig tree dropping ²  its unripe figs ³  when shaken by a fierce ⁴  wind.

But God remembered ¹  Noah and all the wild animals and domestic animals that were with him in the ark. God caused a wind to blow over ²  the earth and the waters receded.
