“As surely as God lives, ¹  who has denied me justice, ²  the Almighty, who has made my life bitter ³  –

So he made a solemn vow ¹  that he would make them die ²  in the desert,

Just as dreams come when there are many cares, ¹  so ²  the rash vow ³  of a fool occurs ⁴  when there are many words.

Let your word be ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no.’ More than this is from the evil one. ¹ 

But Abram replied to the king of Sodom, “I raise my hand ¹  to the Lord, the Most High God, Creator of heaven and earth, and vow ²

The Lord makes this promise on oath ¹  and will not revoke it: ²  “You are an eternal priest ³  after the pattern of ⁴  Melchizedek.” ⁵ 

¹ The Lord who commands armies makes this solemn vow: “Be sure of this: Just as I have intended, so it will be; just as I have planned, it will happen.

So this is what the sovereign Lord says: I vow ¹  that the nations around you will endure insults as well.

They may eat the grain offering, the sin offering, and the guilt offering, and every devoted thing in Israel will be theirs.

But I say to you, do not take oaths at all – not by heaven, because it is the throne of God,

not by earth, because it is his footstool, and not by Jerusalem, ¹  because it is the city of the great King.

For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said, “As I swore in my anger, ‘They will never enter my rest!’” ¹  And yet God’s works ²  were accomplished from the foundation of the world.

besides ¹  the Sabbaths of the Lord and all your gifts, votive offerings, and freewill offerings which you must give to the Lord.

and her husband hears about it, but remains silent about her when he hears about it, then her vows will stand and her obligations which she has pledged for herself will stand.

The Israelites did not attack them because the leaders of the community had sworn an oath to them in the name of the Lord God of Israel. ¹  The whole community criticized ²  the leaders,

For as surely as the Lord, the deliverer of Israel, lives, even if it turns out to be my own son Jonathan, he will certainly die!” But no one from the army said anything. ¹
