But how can I alone bear up under the burden of your hardship and strife?

If it does not accept terms of peace but makes war with you, then you are to lay siege to it.

I say, ¹  “I wish I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and settle in a safe place!

The children of your servants will settle down here, and their descendants ¹  will live securely in your presence.” ² 

He led them on a level road, ¹  that they might find a city in which to live.

For the upright will reside in the land, and those with integrity ¹  will remain in it,

Do not say, ¹  “I will pay back ²  evil!” Wait ³  for the Lord, so that he may vindicate you. ⁴ 

Like a bird that wanders ¹  from its nest, so is a person who wanders from his home. ² 

Those who revolt are knee-deep in slaughter, ¹  but I will discipline them all. ² 

And people will settle there, and there will no longer be the threat of divine extermination – Jerusalem will dwell in security.

that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, so that, because you have been rooted and grounded in love,

I for my part will stay at Mizpah to represent you before the Babylonians ¹  whenever they come to us. You for your part go ahead and harvest the wine, the dates, the figs, ²  and the olive oil, and store them in jars. Go ahead and settle down in the towns that you have taken over.” ³
